A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES
Boeing Salutes Military with Photo Exhibits in Colorado Springs
Dozens of unforgettable images of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces will be on display at three Colorado Springs locations as part of the A Day in the Life of the United States Armed Forces tour -- a national tribute to the military underwritten by The Boeing Company, one of the area's leading employers.
The exhibit will first be on display at the Peterson Air & Space Museum May 11 through June 5. The show then will be a cornerstone feature of the Defenders of Freedom exhibition June 11-13 at the Phil Long Expo Center. A smaller exhibit will be at the Air Force Academy Visitor Center from May 26-June 7. Exhibits are free of charge and open to the public. (See schedule information below for access information and restrictions at Peterson.)
"Boeing is pleased to give the American public a glimpse into the gallantry and physical and mental courage that the men and women in the Armed Forces exhibit daily in routine and extraordinary ways," said John Lorber, Vice President, Boeing IDS, Colorado Operations. "The unselfish acts of these individuals are captured in this stirring exhibit."
The pictures in the exhibit were selected from more than 300 photographs featured in the book A Day in the Life of the United States Armed Forces, produced by EpiCom Media and published by HarperCollins. Boeing is the exclusive underwriter of both the book and the tour, which is going to nearly two dozen military bases and numerous cities across the nation.
Captured over a single 24-hour period -- October 22, 2002 -- by 125 photographers who fanned out across the globe, the exhibit pays tribute to the integrity and commitment of the members of the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The result is an extraordinary documentary of an ordinary day in the lives of the men and women who protect America's freedom.
COLORADO IMAGES AND PHOTOGRAPHERS TO BE FEATURED IN EXHIBIT
The exhibit features the work of three photographers assigned to the Colorado Springs area. Rick Rickman documented the Army's World Class Athlete Program; David Butow photographed cadets at the Air Force Academy, and Mark Richards went deep into the tunnels of the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center.
The show also includes images taken by three Colorado-based photographers: Larry Price of the Denver Post, who traveled to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; National Geographic photographer Paul Chesley, who went to Edwards Air Force Base; and Pulitzer Prize-winner Jay Dickman, who went to Vietnam.
"The photos are a moving visual reminder of the routine and heroic work, the courage and the dedication required to defend America," said Matthew Naythons, president of EpiCom and project co-producer. "This tour celebrates the work of the brave men and women who serve our country every day."
